There was some blowback to MoM’s recent article about the ongoing police investigation into the previous Willard mayor’s alleged embezzlement of his former employer:
So ..if you're going to spread crap, where's the crap on the rest of us.
What about the Mayor, the other Aldermen, me...hell, I spent most of my life tied to the military. Oh...let's not forget you. And since YOU don't live in Willard, what's the point?
Terry Kathcart - Planning & Zoning Commission Chairman
As far as MoM knows, none of the folks Chairman Kathcart mentioned are currently being investigated by law enforcement for having allegedly embezzled from their employer while holding elective office (while mayor, in this particular case — more on that in the coming days) or appear to currently be living outside their administrative district.
In the article, MoM tried hard to avoid being malicious toward either Alderman Hendrickson or the former city clerk, even going so far as to praise both at different points in the article.
Additionally, and as those who’ve read the article will recognize, MoM did include criticism of Mayor Samuel Snider as well.
Did MoM’s intentions seem malicious? If so, I’m happy to consider criticism if you could point to where in the article you find that to be the case.
A few questions to consider:
Will the story only acquire legitimacy if and when it’s eventually reported by local corporate media? And will it really matter that their reporters do not live in Willard?
Are voters better served by knowing about these issues? Or by not knowing about them?
MoM appreciates the comment, Mr. Kathcart.
Opinions other than MoM’s are always welcome.
Thank you.
