Does Alleged Video of Break-in at High School Contain an Anti-Racist Message?
Random, or intentional?
A NOTE ADDED AFTER PUBLICATION: At some point in the future, I may need to clarify what the term “anti-racist” means. It does not merely mean “against racism”. The concept of antiracism, as understood by hardcore activists and academia, is something that I regard as being very negative, and not only because it’s built on a number of false assumptions. Maybe at some point I’ll have an opportunity to explain in more detail.
The following SnapChat video is allegedly of the break-in that occurred after midnight on Sunday morning at Willard High School. During the video (which appears to have had its audio removed until about 3/5ths of the way through) the first intelligible words spoken by the alleged suspect are anti-racist catchwords:
“Anti-racist” and “Free Corey. Free Epp…” before being cut off by an edit.
He then says, “She said it’s activated,” before pulling the school fire alarm. The rest of the alleged suspect’s verbal statements are either profanities, or comments about how loud the alarm is.
“Free Corey” is a possible reference to Corey Long, an anti-racist activist who was convicted of disorderly conduct for wielding a “flamethrower” — an ignited aerosol canister — to push back white nationalists at the “Unite the Right Rally” in 2017. It could also have been a reference to someone else. Or it could have been entirely random.
Either way, its noteworthy that the alleged suspect appears to have thought to include an anti-racist message in the video about the break-in — a video widely circulated on SnapChat before being removed.
Per Wikipedia, “Anti-racism encompasses a range of ideas and political actions which are meant to counter racial prejudice, systemic racism, and the oppression of specific racial groups.”
NOTES: The name of the SnapChat account holder has been removed by slightly cropping the top of the video and by deleting the very beginning and the very end. Additionally, I removed brief sections of the video that displayed the names of two additional SnapChat users, as well as removed a section near the beginning of the video that showed a young black male walking through a classroom; this latter section appeared to have been taken from a separate TikTok video and inserted into the SnapChat video of the break-in.
For the latest update on the break-in, see this video from KOLR 10 from this morning.
